Putin: “34 more countries want to join BRICS”

“34 countries have already expressed their desire to join the work of the BRICS union in one form or another.”

Oku.AzAccording to Izvestia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said this on September 12 at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg during a meeting with high-level representatives of the BRICS countries responsible for security issues.

He noted that this is the 14th meeting of this format within the framework of BRICS. This time, delegations from the new states that joined the union as full members on January 1 are also taking part in the meeting. But more countries want to cooperate with it.

“We cannot ignore the growing interest of many countries in BRICS. Today, 34 countries have declared their desire to join in one way or another the activities of our union. I would like to note that the meeting of high-level representatives will be held in Kazan, Russia, on October 22-24 and is one of the important stages of preparation for the BRICS+ summit,” the Russian leader stressed.

A meeting of senior security officials from the BRICS countries will be held in St. Petersburg on September 10-12.

It should be noted that BRICS is an interstate union and alliance of nine countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia. The organization was founded in June 2006 within the framework of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum with the participation of the economic ministers of Brazil, Russia, India and China.
