Speaking to reporters in Astana, Russian President Vladimir Putin apologized to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the incident involving Labrador Connie in 2007.

The former chancellor noted in his memoirs that Putin’s dog was in the hallway when he was taking photographs during the meeting with the Russian president in Sochi. However, Berlin had warned Moscow in advance that Merkel was afraid of dogs. The incident took place in Sochi in 2007 during Merkel’s visit to Russia.
Putin denied accusations that Merkel “deliberately scared” him with a dog during his visit to Sochi. He promised that if Germany’s former chancellor visits the country again, dogs will not be allowed near him.
