Cultural figures who do not follow the mainstream of certain countries often face ostracism and cancellation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the International Forum of United Cultures in St. Petersburg.
The Head of State noted that in some countries there are many appeals by cultural figures who are subject to “neoliberal standards that are alien to them”, which are actively replicated by the media and become mainstream.
“If an author is interested in having his work appear on stage or screen, or be published, he is obliged to follow this mainstream, and if in those works or even in the private statements of a writer, director or actor there is a glimmer of dissent or doubt, he will face ostracism and cancellation,” Putin said.
The President is confident that now is the right time to formulate a new common international infrastructure of national cultures.
The 10th St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures will be held from 11 to 14 September.
