Menyailo, for his part, said that in his region there is the largest apple orchard in southern Russia with an area of 1.5 thousand hectares.
“There is still a deficit (shortage – ed.). The direction of improvement is clear,” the president stressed.
It should be noted that in August, the head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, Oksana Lut, stated that last year the supply of apples in Russia was 87 percent, and the authorities intend to increase this figure to 100 percent in 2028.
It is also reported that 50% to 70% of apples were damaged in Russia due to the May frost. In early October, Russia’s Agriculture Ministry noted that the current apple harvest in the central and northwestern regions of the country is only 30 to 40 percent of normal due to these frosts.
According to the information, to solve the problem the government intends to replace the lost product with supplies from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, China, Belarus, Transnistria and North Korea.
