Putin signed a law that deprives drivers of their licenses for hiding license plates

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which drivers will be deprived of their license for using devices that allow them to hide or modify a car’s license plate. The document was published on the official legal information portal.

Amendments are being made to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (CAO). Previously, for driving a vehicle without a license plate or for using devices that helped hide the license plate number, the driver could be fined 5,000 rubles or deprived of his license for a period of one to three months.

The new law assigns responsibility for driving a vehicle on which a concealment device is installed in a separate part of article 12.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. It is established that such a crime will result in deprivation of rights for a period of one to one and a half years. The device itself will be confiscated and destroyed.

At the same time, liability is toughened for repeated driving without a license plate (or with the license plate covered in paper, leaves or dirty to the point of being illegible): therefore, your license will also be withdrawn for a period of one to one year. year and a half.

The new rules will come into force on October 14, TASS reports.
