Vladimir Putin threatened to attack US air bases in Poland on Thursday with “advanced weapons” hours after the launch of an advanced missile hypersonic intercontinental ballistic as part of a large-scale bombing targeting all of Ukraine. The Kremlin said the opening of a new US ballistic missile defense base at Redzikowo, near the Baltic coast, “will increase the general level of nuclear danger”, and added that the base had been included in Russia’s list of possible targets. The facility was inaugurated on November 13. It’s part of the shield NATO’s missile defense system called Aegis Ashore designed to intercept ballistic weapons at short and medium range.
“This is another frankly provocative step in a series of profoundly “destabilizing actions of the Americans and their allies,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said of the air base’s inauguration.
His statement came a few minutes later Ukrainian Air Force will report the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile from a base in Russia’s Astrakhan region, south of the Caspian Sea, early Thursday morning.
Putin also ordered a halt to negotiations with Ukraine to end the war between the two countries.

As previously reported, the military base was inaugurated on November 13. It was commissioned by former US President Barack Obama in 2009, during the first year of his presidency after winning the 2008 election. It is the first permanent installation of US armed forces in Poland.
