Putin toughens punishment for organizing illegal migration

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed two laws today: toughening penalties for complicity in illegal migration and ratifying the treaty with the DPRK.

In particular, for organizing the illegal entry and stay of foreigners in the Russian Federation, as well as for using the country as transit, the defendants face sentences of 2 to 5 years in prison. In aggravating circumstances, the prison sentence will range from 5 to 10 years. The maximum penalty will be 15 years in prison and a fine of 5 million rubles.

“The organization of illegal migration committed by a group of people is classified as a particularly serious crime. The same applies to cases of importation of illegal immigrants for the purpose of committing serious or especially serious crimes. Violators of the law will be punished with prison terms of 8 to 15 years and a fine of three to five million rubles. Currently, the maximum penalty for this crime is seven years in prison.” – writes RG.

The President also signed a law ratifying the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between the Russian Federation and the DPRK.

“Putin signed the law on the ratification of the Treaty of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and the DPRK,” the Kremlin’s telegram channel reports.

It should be noted that the day before the president did not rule out the possibility of holding joint military exercises with North Korea.

In addition, the Russian government decided to abolish the Organizing Committee for the preparation of athletes for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, since from 2022 Russian athletes do not have the opportunity to participate in international competitions by decision of the International Olympic Committee.
