Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, saying it is too dangerous, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
The 79th session of the UN General Assembly will be held on September 22-23 in New York. The delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The composition of the delegation was approved by Vladimir Putin, but he himself will not be there.
“He has not been travelling in recent years. So, after all, now the United States is, by the way, a country that does not fulfill its obligations in the best way, like the countries that are the headquarters of the UN. Therefore, now this is probably not the best destination to travel to.” – said Dmitry Peskov.
Moscow has previously repeatedly pointed out problems with the issuance of US visas, primarily to diplomats posted to the UN, and therefore has expressed the need to initiate arbitration against the United States. However, the procedure has not yet begun and the Foreign Ministry no longer remembers it.
