Radiohead returns to the rehearsal room

After several years of inactivity, British band Radiohead is back in the rehearsal room to play some of its old songs, as Colin Greenwood, the band’s bassist, recently announced during an interview at the Hay Festival Querétaro literature and art festival in Mexico.

Greenwood noted that the band reunited a few months ago in London to rehearse some of their older material. A return to the studio that came eight years after the release of their last album, A moon-shaped swimming pool, and this sparked rumors about the possible launch of new musical projects.

“We rehearsed a few months ago in London, just to play some old songs. It was great fun, we had a great time,” Greenwood detailed in the video call interview last Sunday, framed as part of the literary festival.

Although the announcement did not specify a return to the stage or the release of a new album, the news was enough to trigger a wave of speculation on social networks about the reason for this new meeting of one of the most influential groups of the last three decades.

While rumors are circulating about a possible return of Radiohead to the stage, what is a fact is the side project of the other members of the band, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, called The Smile. A band that started working during the COVID lockdown and that was heavily influenced by the essence of Radiohead, since they also share a musical producer.

The announcement of Radiohead’s return to rehearsals comes at the same time as promotion for Colin Greenwood’s new photography book, How to Disappear: A Photographic Portrait of Radiohead. A book whose title is inspired by the song How to disappear completelya song from 2000 that addresses the band’s desire to stay out of the public eye.

The book, which will be released on October 15, features a comprehensive history of the bassist’s time with the band, as well as a collection of never-before-seen photographs. An authentic X-ray of the band that provides a valuable visual history of one of the most influential rock bands of recent years.
