“The French government carried out 193 nuclear weapons tests in French Polynesia between 1966 and 1996. This resulted in contamination of those areas. This activity also had a serious negative impact on the health of the local community.”
Oku.Az reports that MP Ramid Namazov said this at the parliamentary meeting held in the Green Zone of COP29 in Baku.
He asked the panel participants a question about how to solve the problem:
“A similar process is taking place in all areas of colonialism. Therefore, climate strategies must be implemented in those areas. What role can the Inter-Parliamentary Union play in solving this problem?”
Director General of the International Development Law Organization Jan Beagle responded to the question that such issues will be resolved as a result of the conference. Because solving just laws is our first job. We have to take into account the experiences of those people here and parliamentarians here should talk to their governments and try to get a final document after they return to their countries.
