The Sevillian goldsmith Ramón León Losquiño will create the medals of coronation of the Virgin of the Moon and the Child Jesus. This news and many others were announced at the hermitage of the Virgin of the Moon, during the presentation of the acts of the canonical coronation of Our Lady of the Moon.
The big event will take place during the Immaculate Bridge, that is to say in dDecember 2025while it will be 150 years since the keys of the Tabernacles of Villanueva de Córdoba and Pozoblanco were handed over to their patroness, which symbolized the union of the two villages around the Virgin of the Moon.
Furthermore, it was announced the logo of the coronation, the file with the thousands of signatures collected from citizens supporting this recognition and the support of numerous brotherhoods, institutions and companies that accompany it. We also know that “there will be a special coat for this day”, according to the press release published by the brotherhoods of the two municipalities.
Present at the presentation were the Mayor of Pozoblanco, Santiago Cabello; the leader of Villanueva de CórdobaIsaac Reyes; the chaplain of the Pozoblanco brotherhood, José María González; the chaplain of the brotherhood of Villanueva de Córdoba, José Félix García; the captain of the Pozoblanco brotherhood, Juan García; and the president of the brotherhood of Villanueva de Córdoba, Juan José Cartán.
For the crowns, the goldsmith Ramón León from Seville was inspired, according to his own explanation, by “the Valley of Los Pedroches and the quote made by Saint John in the Apocalypse: the woman clothed with the sun”.
The artist underlines “the heavy responsibility of creating a crown which unites the dreams and desires of two cities», for which he will take into account the tradition and the environment (such as the oaks and the cistus flower) to configure “a crown composed of three parts: basket, imperial and burst”.
On the other hand, the canonical coronation logo was created by Rafael Sánchez Ruiz and represents the Virgin of the Moon with a graphic allusion to the Coronation and has identify of the two towns, Pozoblanco and Villanueva de Córdoba.
He recognized that “it has not been a simple process because of everything that it implies, a great challenge carried out with a lot of love that has tried to collect all the nuances that the Virgin of the Moon has in each of the two cities”.
José Félix García, chaplain of the brotherhood of Villanueva de Córdoba, delved into what the canonical coronation of Our Lady of the Moon means, citing the tradition that has always existed “in the Catholic Church of the coronation of the Virgin, which will be a visible sign of the recognition that the towns of Pozoblanco and Villanueva have towards the Virgin of Luna.
José María González recalled that everything happens “after a path full of years full of desire on the part of the towns of Villanueva de Córdoba and Pozoblanco, realizing one year from the request to the bishop to begin the steps to achieve the coronation, the only Virgin in the major cities of Cordoba who is not crowned.
With the approval Demetrio Fernández began the meetings and preparations that will lead to the coronation, the request to Rome and compliance with all the protocol while waiting to know the final date which, as indicated Jose Maria Gonzálezthis will be “during the last quarter of 2025, with a high probability of being on the Immaculate Bridge in December 2025”.
For his part, the president of the Luna de Villanueva de Córdoba brotherhood, Juan José Cartánstressed that “this has always been a desire of both brotherhoods, in a process that began in 1989 with Mgr. Infantes Florido, an attempt that did not work and that was resumed last year, although we started to have meetings in 2022, with which we already have a year of work.
He also announced that “the brotherhood’s charitable project will be allocated to a project of the Workers of the Heart of Jesus for the most disadvantaged children, and support, with the brotherhood of Pozoblanco, to a project that the Bishopric has in Peru“.
The captain of the Virgen de Luna brotherhood of Pozoblanco, Juan Garciahighlighted “the work that has been carried out for a long time so that the coronation will be a complete success in 2025, being the greatest sign of love towards the Virgin and the greatest example of union between the two peoples”.
A hymn will be composed for Nuestra Señora de Luna and the social work of the Pozoblanco brotherhood will try to serve Caritas in their essential work in the city, as well as a raffle which will be launched in the coming weeks.
For his part, Santiago Cabello highlighted “the importance of the work carried out by so many people to experience the coronation of the Virgin of the Moon in 2025”. Meanwhile, Isaac Reyes described the nomination as “a historical milestone that we will know the two municipalities after a long period of work. The two municipal councilors ratified all their institutional and logistical support for the brotherhoods.
A competition will be organized to select the poster of the coronation and continues to open an account in Cajasur as part of the donation campaign.
