Rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is facing charges of human trafficking and sexual abuse, was arrested Monday at a New York hotel, his lawyer confirmed to CNN.
The rapper was arrested after being indicted by a grand jury of anonymous citizens, but it is still unclear what crimes he is accused of, the network detailed.
The contents of the indictment will be revealed Tuesday when the rapper appears in court in the Southern District of New York, where the judge will decide whether to continue the proceedings in freedom or in preventive detention.
Combs, who had been in New York for a week, was arrested at the Park Hyatt hotel in Manhattan by agents from the Homeland Security Investigations Office.
His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, issued a statement deploring the “unfair prosecution” of Combs. “He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal,” the attorney said.
Agnifilo said he was “disappointed” by the arrest and said Combs had cooperated with authorities.
Ten complaints of sexual abuse and rape
The 54-year-old musician’s arrest comes after he received ten complaints of sexual abuse and rape from various women over the past year, accusations Combs has denied.
However, in May, he issued a public apology after CNN revealed a 2016 video showing him kicking and dragging his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, through the hallways of a Los Angeles hotel.
In March, authorities executed two search warrants at his properties in Los Angeles and Miami as part of a federal investigation into sex trafficking, drug trafficking and illegal gun possession.
