Ratan Tata, former chairman of India’s oldest conglomerate Tata Sons, died Wednesday night in a Mumbai hospital. He was 86 years old. The current chairman of Tata Sons, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, confirmed his disappearance and described the Indian tycoon as his “friend, mentor and guide” in a press release.
Tata had been admitted to Breach Candy hospital in south Mumbai this week. On X day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted a “extraordinary human being” who assured “Stable leadership for one of the oldest and most prestigious companies in India. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom.”.
He who was one of the most influential men in India has long benefited from the image of a manager attentive to his employees.
