Moscow – The Russian court sentenced 12 years in prison with maximum safety by Sergey Torop, the former road transport police, which claimed to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. Torop was punished for causing psychological and physical losses to his followers and their operation financially.
Torop, known as Vissarion, founded the last church of the agreement in 1991 in the Krasnomski region, Russia.
The sect attracted thousands of followers with a strict way of life, which forbade meat, alcohol, smoking, cursing and the use of money.
Its members live as vegetarian farmers in remote settlements in Siberia.
The Novosibirsk Court also sentenced 12 and 11 years to the assistants of the Torop, Vladimir Vernikov and Vadim Redkin.
