Goyache claims that the Madrid president’s statements “produce irreparable harm to the prestige of an academic institution which constitutes an essential pillar of higher education in Spain and which enjoys widely deserved international recognition.”
In addition, he reminds the highest political leader of the autonomy that the achievements of the Complutense “contribute, like those of the other public universities of Madrid, to projecting an image of the Community of Madrid as an attractive space for global talents and an engine of growth for the region’s economy. Along the same lines, he points out that Ayuso herself was part of the Complutense community after studying in one of its faculties.
“The decline in the value of this university affects not only its workers, but also the families, students and graduates who, like you, have attended its classrooms, in addition to its global reputation and the perception that businesses , institutions and future students of educational quality in our region. Universities, as centers of knowledge and plurality of ideas, are not and should not be reduced to ideological caricatures. Such accusations do not reflect the reality of the diversity and excellence that characterize the UCM,” insists Goyache.
At this point, the rector recalled that Complutense “occupies position 164 in the latest edition of the prestigious QS World University ranking, positioning itself as one of the best universities in the world, occupying, for the first time in history, the best position. among Spanish universities. Furthermore, he highlighted that, in this same ranking, the university he directs “climbed 65 places in Employability compared to the previous edition, reaching 41st place in the world and being first in Spain according to this indicator “.
During Goyache’s mandate, the Complutense granted Ayuso the title of illustrious student. “If the president of one of the most important communities in Spain is not illustrious, I do not know what other type of illustrious people we will find,” said the rector in February 2023.
