“Renting a car cost 500 euros”

At least 15,000 people were affected by the train chaos in Madrid caused by the derailment of a train between the Atocha and Chamartín stations. Many were forced to look for other alternatives to return home, options that led them to pay for the same trip again, but this time for much more money.

For example, Daniela and her family spent 500 euros on their Valencia-Madrid train tickets. They have to come to the capital because tomorrow they have a flight to Colombia and they only have one very expensive option left: “Renting high-end cars is very expensive, around 500 euros. for each car.”

In total, the family spent 1,500 euros on the trip. “So as not to miss the flights to Colombia, because the bill there would be long,” he explains.

Estefanía also had to resort to renting a car and that didn’t come cheap either. “242 euros already covers gasoline, or 300 euros perfectly,” he laments.

And many others like her. And of course, high demand leaves alternatives without supply. “Yesterday, for example, there were about 18 cars left, today there were about two free,” explains Lupe Moreno, from the car rental agency “Moving your way”.

The last buses were also full by dawn, filling all the seats. And thefts, for example, Valencia-Madrid, only tickets left at 923 euros.

Exorbitant price options that many affected people were forced to pay due to this weekend’s train chaos.
