Reporters Without Borders files a complaint against the social network

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) announced that it would file a complaint against the social network X, in a press release published on Wednesday, November 13. The organization accuses the platform of having left online, despite multiple reports, pro-Russian propaganda messages that usurp its identity.

In mid-September, RSF denounced the use of its logo and image in a manipulated video presented as a BBC report and describing an alleged study by the NGO that demonstrated the presence of neo-Nazi militants in the ranks of the Ukrainian army. This studio never existed and the video was impersonated by the BBC. The format of the latter, widely spread by Worldof Parisian either 20 minutes.

Despite multiple reports of the video and its copies to X’s moderation teams, “none of our requests resulted in the removal of content that defamed our organization and one of its directors, usurped their identity, and undermined their representation”write RSF.

In France, as in most countries, social networks are not criminally responsible for messages published by their users, as long as they remove illegal content that is reported to them within a reasonable time. “The impunity claimed by social networksdeclares Emmanuel Daoud, RSF lawyer cited in the association’s press release.
