The US Republican Party wins half of the Senate seats in the elections, depriving the Democrats of control of the upper house of the US Congress, according to a Fox News forecast.
According to the channel’s calculations, Republicans already obtain 50 of 100 seats. The Democratic Party has so far only won 42 seats.
In the current composition, the Democrats control a total of 51 seats in the Senate, and the Republicans – 49. According to current US legislation, if when considering legislative initiatives in the Senate the number of votes is divided equally, then the vice president of The United States, which has the powers of the head of the higher body, has the final say.
Republicans also lead in elections to the US House of Representatives. According to forecasts, they will obtain 159 seats out of 435, and the Democrats, 103.
