JAKARTA – In total, 2300 people died in 12 cities of Europe from the increase in temperature during extreme heat waves that ended last weekend, according to scientific research published on Wednesday (7/7/2025).

This study was concentrated in the last ten days until July 2, when almost all Western European regions experienced extreme thermal waves, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in Spain and Forest Fires that occurred in France.

About 1,500 out of 2300 victims were allegedly killed from the effect of climate change, which led to the fact that the temperature was much more extreme. This result was obtained from scientific research by researchers at the Imperial College of London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

“Climate change has led to an increase in temperature far beyond the limits of the normal limit, and this makes it much more dangerous,” said Reuters Dr. Ben Clark, a researcher of the Imperial College of London.

This study includes 12 large cities in Europe, such as Barcelona, Madrid, London and Milan, where the temperature of thermal waves increases to 4 degrees Celsius from climate change.

Researchers use trusted epidemiological models and previous death data to assess the number of deaths. This assessment includes situations when heat is the main cause of death, including when extreme temperatures worsen the disease that was previously transferred.

Scientists claim that they use the methods that were considered by the reviewed colleagues to accelerate calculations, taking into account the number of deaths due to heat, is not officially registered, and some governments do not provide data.
