The President of the Government of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, This Sunday he asked for “the greatest caution and avoid travel” in areas of the province of Almería in which the National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the red warning due to heavy rain. The Regional Executive also indicated that it had sent a Mass message on the cell phones of all residents of Almanzora, Los Vélez, Nacimiento and Tabernas alert the population to the extreme risk of possible flooding.

In this sense, Aemet warned against the forecast of “torrential rains” in the province of Almeria, with “possibility of canal overflow and flooding”. “The danger is extreme! “Only travel if strictly necessary!”, underlined the public body on its social networks.

As announced by the Commission through Emergencies 112, the Emergency Plan, operational situation 1, was activated this Sunday morning in the north and east of Almería due to the risk of flooding due to rain that could leave more than 120 liters per square meter.

The emergency phase – after the activation of the pre-emergency phase the same morning – refers to a phenomenon which causes damage and for which the necessary measures are implemented for the rescue and protection of people or goods. Operational situation 1 is declared by the head of the competent ministry for civil protection and emergency when the emergency can be brought under control through the use of ordinary means and resources available in the Junta de Andalucía, or with specific support resources whose mobilization does not require specific coordination on the part of the central bodies of the national civil protection system.

Concretely, Aemet raised the warning to red this Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:59 p.m. in part of the province of Almería. due to the “extreme risk due to rain”, especially in the area of ​​Levante, Valle del Almanzora and Los Vélez, as well as Nacimiento and Campo de Tabernas, where a total of 60 liters per square meter is expected in one hour. Likewise, 110-120 liters can be achieved in twelve hours, with the possibility of reaching higher accumulations at certain points. These areas will remain under an orange warning for storms until this afternoon.

According to the website of the National Meteorological Agency, consulted by Europa Press, the yellow warning is also activated in the region of Poniente and Almería Capital, due to the “risk” of rain and thunderstorms in which accumulated precipitation is expected in an hour. 20 liters per square meter.

Likewise, the coastal phenomena of this Sunday remain with a yellow warning throughout the coast of Cádiz, as well as in the Poniente area of ​​Almería and on the coast of Granada. The alert will affect, in Cádiz, the coast and the Strait of Cádiz, until Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. In both areas, easterly winds of between 50 and 61 kilometers per hour are forecast, west of Tarifa and in the offshore Trafalgar area. The risk of yellow level due to waves will remain in force throughout the day in the areas of Poniente and Almería, capital and on the coast of Granada, with winds from the east and northeast at intervals of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, and waves of two to three meters.
