MIGRATION CRISIS
The president of the Canary Islands thanked Robles for the call, as it was “the only one we had with the Spanish government.”
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, received a call from the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, in which she proposed two new possible spaces for the first reception of unaccompanied migrant minors arriving in the islands.
The president of the Canary Islands thanked Robles for this call, because it was “the only one we had with the Spanish government,” as he pointed out. “After the agreement that we had to take in the legitimate defense of the interests of miners, public agents and NGOs last Monday in the Government Council, this contact is appreciated. The only one we had with the Spanish government was with the Minister of Defense,” Clavijo said.
Robles told the regional president that he had already placed spaces that are being used and hinted that there could be more. The minister indicated via WhatsApp these two new locations that could be used for reception and that, according to Robles, could be made available to the Canary Islands, and left the door open to new proposals from the regional government that could be studied.

In addition, he added that Robles expressed his concern as Minister of Defense about the situation that the archipelago is experiencing with the migratory emergency and showed his collaboration “to be with the Canary Islands in terms of this first reception that will necessarily be here.”
“But also,” he continued, “it shares the need and the demand of the Canary Islands that, ultimately, we cannot bear alone all the migratory pressure from Africa and the need for a distribution throughout the national territory in favour of the integration of these children.
