It is no secret that Daniel Sancho, since the beginning of August 2023, has been in the eye of the hurricane.. And all this after committing the murder and dismemberment of Edwin Arrieta on the Thai island of Koh Pangan, for which he was sentenced to life in prison. As could not be otherwise, Rodolfo Sancho did not hesitate for a second to actively involve himself in preparing his son’s defense. The famous actor was aware of the risks the 30-year-old chef was running, because what had happened was extremely serious.. But if there is something that was clear, and that in the documentary The Sancho Affair made it clear that he was not going to sit idly by, far from it: “If I had ignored all this, I would not have been able to live.”
In the second episode of The Sancho Affairwhich aired on Max a few weeks after Daniel’s sentence was made public, we were able to learn more about the hours leading up to the murder, as well as the hours that followed. What was unknown until now is the content of the first call the chef made to his father Rodolfo Sancho after being arrested by the Thai police, suspected of having ended the life and dismembered the Colombian Edwin Arrieta. The actor himself, in this documentary Max, wanted to tell what that moment was like and, above all, how he lived it. In this way, Rodolfo remembers how his son would tell him over and over again, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it happened.”while crying in a truly inconsolable way. Something that had a huge impact on him, because it couldn’t be otherwise.
Rodolfo Sancho admitted that he did not remember whether, during that call, he had asked his son a specific question: “No, he immediately said ‘calm, calm’, because he was very upset. ‘Breathe, I’m going to start moving to see what happens with this. Don’t worry’. A little bit of that. Plus, it was 3 minutes, don’t think… They left him for a moment, then they took him away…”.
After learning of the seriousness of his son’s situation, the actor kept the promise he had made and began to mobilize: “I first called a friend of mine who owns a law firm. He immediately told me that he needed someone with international knowledge. I have a giant list of lawyers on my phone. I’ve spoken to several. I did some research in this direction and finally made the decision with the team I have.“.

The actor, in this second episode of Max’s documentary, also spoke about what this very difficult stage of his life has meant to him. If there is one thing that was clear to him from the first moment, it is that he wanted to contribute and help in everything that was necessary in this process: “Having the information, knowing things, reassures me more because otherwise the wait is very long.. Putting myself in an active place, psychologically, helped me in some ways because you put yourself in a place of struggle. In a passive place, I think it would have been more difficult. It is a defense mechanism“.
As if that were not enough, Daniel Sancho’s father has shown firmness in the face of the harsh criticism he has received throughout the process, due to his attitude towards this complex stage: “There are people who will understand it and there are people who will not understand it, that will always be the case.” And he went further: “Really, if you found yourself in such a situation, what would you do? What do you do? Well, yours. (…) Without taking all this into account, I could not have lived.”.
