Rodrigo Buenaventura will complete his mandate at the CNMV and chair IOSCO

Rodrigo Buenaventura leaves the National Markets and Securities Commission. The current president of the CNMV will end his term on December 16 and join the Council of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) as secretary general.

Until the end of his first term as president of the Spanish organization, Buenaventura will continue to exercise his functions as head of the CNMV “in complete normality, guaranteeing the normal functioning and decision-making of the CNMV”, as reports the press release.

This appointment not only represents a leap in Buenaventura’s professional career, but also demonstrates the relevance and influence of the organization and the Spanish financial markets on the international stage. In this sense, Buenaventura declared that “andIt is an honor to be able to contribute, once my mandate is over to the CNMV, to improve the supervision and regulation of financial markets through of the most competent international organization in this field. IOSCO is the global supervisor of securities markets and brings together up to 130 securities commissions around the world, responsible for regulation and overseeing up to 95% of the world’s financial markets. Buenaventura will now be the new Secretary General of this international organization and will be responsible for leading it, representing it externally and advising both the Council and the President. His mandate will last three years with the possibility of renewal.
