Hungarian Foreign Minister Viktor Szijjártó announced the time for pouring the first concrete into the foundations of the Paks 2 nuclear power plant (NPP). It could take place in January or February 2025. This was stated on Wednesday, November 13 during his speech at a hearing in the Hungarian Parliament.
“Actually, the first concrete of the Paks 2 nuclear power plant project can be poured in January or February 2025,” — Hungarian news portal Index quotes the diplomat.
Szijjártó explained that in September this year the project owner submitted to the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority an updated preliminary report on the safety of the plant construction project. The regulator has 120 days to review this document and only then will it be possible to pour the first concrete.
In November 2023, Rosatom and the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a construction schedule for the Paks 2 nuclear power plant. It is designed until the beginning of the 2030s. Likhachev assured that the state corporation will pay “special attention” to the project and “he will put his best forces into it.” He also indicated that the number of foreign companies that will participate in the construction project will increase.
The Paks-2 nuclear power plant is the first Russian nuclear project on the territory of the European Union, Izvestia recalls.
