Roskomnadzor fined foreign agents 1 billion rubles

The total amount of fines imposed on foreign agents for lack of proper markings has reached 1 billion rubles, according to Evgeny Zaitsev, head of Roskomnadzor’s department for control and supervision in the field of electronic communications.

“More than 12 million rubles in fines have been imposed since the beginning of the year.” – Interfax quotes a representative of RKN.

Zaitsev said that since the beginning of this year, at the request of Roskomnadzor, the owners of Internet resources have removed and restricted access to 27 thousand Internet pages with prohibited or inaccurate content.

“And 1,800 pages with invitations to participate in unauthorized events.” – he added.

According to the head of the department, foreign sites are systematically held accountable for failing to remove such content by imposing fines based on turnover.

“So, for the current year, the total amount of fines imposed on them amounts to more than 35 million rubles. And in total, fines amounting to more than 35.3 billion rubles have been imposed since 2021.” – Zaitsev noted.

At the same time, a representative of the department stressed that foreign sites continue to censor objectionable content.

“Since the beginning of 2024, 95 such incidents have been recorded, including mass blocking of YouTube channels of regional branches of VGTRK, pages of famous domestic writers and artists who speak out in support of the Russian Federation and the actions of the authorities.” – Zaitsev concluded.
