The circulation of orthonavirus, which was previously discovered in China, has not been detected in Russia; the situation is under the control of Rospotrebnadzor, the press service of the department reported.
Earlier, the media reported that scientists in China had identified a dangerous new virus transmitted by ticks, which they called the “swamp virus.”
In 2019, a new orthoneurovirus (wetland virus (WELV)) was discovered in a man who was bitten by a tick in a wetland park in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Chinese scientists have identified the presence of the virus in 17 other residents of China’s northeastern regions, as well as in several species of ticks and animals.
Rospotrebnadzor stressed that it is systematically monitoring infectious and viral diseases. No orthoneurovirus has been reported in Russia at the moment.
Through bilateral cooperation, Rospotrebnadzor requested information on the epidemiological situation from the State Administration for Disease Prevention and Control of the People’s Republic of China.
The situation is under control, the department said.
