“The neighborhood of Benfica” is a plan for the administration of Rui Costa, the former international Portuguese ace, to transform Estádio da Luz, opened in 2004 and the entire environs, which, according to the club, “national and international purposes”.

According to this plan, the recently expanded stadium will have 68 100 seats at the beginning of the new season, will be able to place 70,000 people. In addition, the scene will receive a new facade to provide shadows of corridors and improve the comfort of participants and fans.

Another innovation is the creation of the fourth floor, in the middle of today’s structure, outside the stands, from 6800 square meters, for offices or to ensure premium hospitality during the races.

The work performed by Populs, the company responsible for the initial project Estádio Da Luz in 2004, and the Saraiva + Associados architectural office, also include the construction of three more kiosks: a new multi -purpose stand of 10,000 spectators. 1,500 people, respectively, can be used for basketball, volleyball, handball, roller hockey, futsal or boxing.

Today’s pool will be replaced by a new public basin, in which the football stadium in the open air on the terrace and the treadmill will be added, as well as the new theater and the new 500 -year event.

In the vicinity there will be a new area where more than 10,000 participants and fans can gather, with DJ Stand and a place for events, as well as shops and restaurants with terraces.

The Eusbio statue will be moved and will appear at the entrance to this new space.

In her statement, Rui Costa emphasized that the project is aimed at “promoting benfica even more in the country and in the world as an excellent sports certificate of Portugal.”

The cost has not yet been disclosed, but, according to DN, it should vary from 200 to 300 million euros.

The work will begin in the middle of -2027 and take two years to finish before the 2030 World Cup, organized by Portugal in cooperation with Spain and Morocco.
