Relations between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Galant remain strained. Netanyahu previously fired Galant in March 2023 following his criticism of judicial reforms, but reinstated him two weeks later amid public protests and a deteriorating security situation.
There are now renewed calls within the government for Galant’s dismissal, with some coalition members expressing discontent with his actions during the ongoing conflict. However, US intervention could play a decisive role in his continued tenure.
Rumors about Galant’s possible dismissal surfaced in July. Channel 12 then broadcast information that the head of the Israeli military department could be dismissed due to his disagreements with other members of the government on important issues, including the recruitment of Haredim. However, Netanyahu’s office has not officially confirmed this version.
