The Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday confirmed the first Ukrainian attack with American-made ATACMS ballistic missiles against a military installation on Russian territory.

According to the war report, five missiles were shot down and fragments of a sixth hit the compound of a military installation in the Bryansk border region.

“As a result, a fire broke out and was operationally extinguished. There are no deaths or injuries,” said the military statement published on Telegram.

The attack took place at 3:25 a.m., “according to confirmed data, with the use of American-made ATACMS tactical missiles.”

The S-400 and Pantsir anti-aircraft batteries shot down five of the missiles, the statement said.

Previously, the Ukrainian General Staff had announced, without giving details of the weapons used, a successful attack on an arsenal of the Russian army in Bryansk.

As the New York Times reported on Sunday, US President Joe Biden authorized kyiv to use long-range missiles against targets on Russian territory.

The press initially reported that the permit only concerned the Kursk border region, partially occupied by Ukrainian troops since August and where Moscow would have deployed thousands of North Korean soldiers.

Precisely, in response to Washington’s decision, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved on Tuesday the new Russian nuclear doctrine which allows the use of atomic weapons in the event of a conventional attack.
