Russia has concentrated a group of 50,000 troops in the Kursk region, which includes units of the DPRK army. This was reported by The Washington Post, citing American and Ukrainian sources.
It is noted that the group is preparing for a major offensive to liberate the Kursk region from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. When it was formed, the Russian command did not transfer troops from eastern Ukraine, “allowing Moscow to apply pressure simultaneously on several fronts.”
Ukrainian officials, according to them, hope that North Korean troops will take part in the offensive, which will happen in the coming days. Currently, DPRK army units are coordinating battles with the Russians in the western Kursk region.
According to American estimates, there are now more than ten thousand North Koreans near Kursk. They are dressed in Russian uniforms, but, according to American officials, they will fight in their own units and will not join the Russians. Korean People’s Army soldiers are trained in artillery fire and infantry assault tactics. This preparation means that at least some North Korean troops will participate in frontal attacks against Ukrainian military positions, the article says.
“Thousands of additional infantry soldiers can change the situation in Kursk. “These soldiers are younger and more physically fit than many Russian contract soldiers.” – says American military expert Rob Lee, quoted by Strana.
American military and intelligence officials have become more pessimistic about Ukraine’s overall prospects, noting that Russia has been steadily gaining ground in both Kursk and eastern Ukraine. Officials say the setbacks are partly a result of Ukraine’s inability to address critical troop shortages.
