Russia launches new drone attack in Kyiv

Russian attacks in Kharkiv injured twelve and caused power outages

At least twelve people were injured Sunday night in Russian attacks in Kharkiv, which caused power outages in at least part of this large northeastern Ukrainian city, police and local authorities said.

These bombings come as Ukrainian authorities fear the start of a new campaign of Russian attacks against the country’s civilian energy infrastructure, such as during the winter of 2022-2023, a means used by Moscow to plunge millions of Ukrainians into the cold and darkness, and thus they put pressure on kyiv.

“Today, around 10:00 p.m. [heure locale ; 21 heures, heure de Paris]The Russians bombed three districts of Kharkiv. (…). Twelve civilians were injured: seven women, between 22 and 83 years old, and five men, between 21 and 38 years old.the police announced in a press release posted on Telegram.

According to this source, “Residential buildings, garages, gas stations, houses and cars were damaged”and rescuers are mobilized to the affected places.

“Due to enemy attacks, there is no electricity in some parts of the city”stated the Ukrainian police, who did not specify how many homes will be affected by these cuts.

The governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synehoubov, and the mayor of the big city, Ihor Terekhov, confirmed on Telegram power outages in “apart” of the city. The two officials did not detail the exact extent of the damage or specify which energy infrastructure had been affected.

Kharkiv, the region’s large city of the same name in northeastern Ukraine, is frequently the target of Russian fire. It is located less than 30 kilometers from the border with Russia.

In May, the Russian army attempted an offensive in this region bordering Russia, with the official objective of creating a buffer zone and thus limiting Ukrainian attacks against military or industrial targets on Russian soil. But this attack did not have the desired effect and kyiv continued to attack Russian territory daily.

In Kryvy Rih (south), the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky, a missile attack also injured three people overnight and damaged homes, according to the town’s mayor, Oleksandr Vilkoul.

On the other side of the front, two people were injured during Ukrainian attacks on the Russian region of Belgorod, according to its governor, Viacheslav Gladkov, who reported damage to civilian infrastructure.
