Russia officially recognized the Taliban government in Afghanistan

Moscow – Russia officially recognizes the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Moscow became the first major country to establish official diplomatic relations with the government.

The Supreme Court of Russia deleted Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations in April, which effectively legalized its activities for the first time since its installation in 2003.

The Islamic movement returned to power in August 2021 after the withdrawal of the United States forces (USA) and NATO, which were chaotic, and changed the country’s name to Afghan Islamic Emirates.

On Thursday (4/7/2025), Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Andrei Rudenko officially received a new letter on the confidence of the Afghan ambassador, raised to Moscow, Gulah Hassan, a step that was considered an attempt to establish diplomatic relations.
