Russia ready to complete Rooppur nuclear power plant construction project in Bangladesh – Ambassador

Russia is ready to continue working with Bangladesh to successfully complete the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant, he said at the Russian Embassy in Dhaka following a meeting between the head of the Russian diplomatic mission, Alexander Mantytsky, and the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Jashim Uddin.

“The ambassador assured the interlocutor that the Russian side is ready to continue working together to successfully complete the project.” — the diplomatic mission told TASS.

As one of the recent developments at the site, he mentioned the beginning of loading the simulator fuel assemblies into the reactor vessel.

Mantytsky also confirmed Moscow’s commitment to a multifaceted dialogue with Dhaka.

“The meeting discussed current issues of bilateral relations, including the implementation of joint projects and interaction in international organizations.” – indicated at the Russian embassy.

The Rooppur NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built according to the Russian design 160 km from the capital of Bangladesh Dhaka under the general contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian project with VVER-1200 reactors, which has been successfully implemented at two power units of the Novovoronezh NPP, was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh. This is a developmental project of generation III+, which fully meets international safety requirements.
