A bridge over the Lena River in the Yakutsk region is needed to develop the road network in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today, September 4, during a meeting on infrastructure development in the Far Eastern Federal District in Vladivostok.

“We pay great attention to the development of roads in the Far East; their condition plays a key role in many respects for efficient logistics and strengthening the economy of the region as a whole. And, of course, improving the quality of life.” – said the head of state.

He recalled that among the most important road projects already completed is the bridge over the Zeya River in the Amur Region.

“We must also implement another important and long-awaited project for the people – the construction of a bridge over the Lena River in the Yakutsk region.” – Putin noted.

It should be noted that Yakutsk is the only major city in Russia that does not have year-round connections to the federal highway network. The construction of a 3.1-kilometer-long bridge over the Lena will allow transport connections to 18% of the country’s territory. 83% of the inhabitants of Yakutia will be within the communication zone. The bridge will link the Lena and Kolyma federal highways with the Vilyuy federal highway, and will connect Eastern Siberia with the ports of the Sea of Okhotsk by the shortest route. In addition, a transport corridor will appear from Irkutsk to Magadan. At the same time, the region’s GDP growth may amount to 2.5-3% annually.

With the commissioning of the Lensky Bridge, the industrial turnover will include about 1 trillion rubles in mineral extraction facilities. According to the head of the republic Aysena Nikolaeva The bridge will save about 8 billion rubles a year on freight transport. The cost of the works is estimated at 122 billion rubles. This stage includes the construction of the bridge itself and the access to it from the right bank; the access to the left bank was divided into a separate stage.
