Russia wants to introduce a procedure for reconciliation in the event of divorce. But not to save the family.

The Ministry of Justice plans to introduce a divorce settlement procedure, the aim of which is not to preserve the family, but to smooth out the rough edges of the divorce process.

According to Kommersant, the Ministry of Justice is considering the possibility of legislatively introducing a reconciliation procedure before initiating a divorce process. The initiative is being discussed within the framework of the state policy “to preserve and strengthen traditional Russian spiritual and moral values.” The project is not yet aimed at preserving marriage, but at solving the main problems of relations between divorcing people.

It is assumed that within the framework of this procedure, spouses will be able to pre-trially resolve issues relating to the division of property, the place of residence of common children and the payment of alimony. It should be noted that a similar practice already exists in Azerbaijan, where citizens who are divorcing must undergo conciliation mediation at their own expense.

However, the head of the State Duma Committee on Family Affairs Nina Ostanina He proposed transferring the financial burden of this process from the spouses to the State; otherwise, in his words, “this is simply absurd.”

According to Rosstat, in the first 4 months of 2024, the number of divorces in our country exceeded the number of marriages by more than 3 thousand.
