Russian Denis Postovoy has been arrested in the United States on suspicion of violating export restrictions, money laundering and illegally supplying military and dual-use microelectronics to Russia, the US Department of Justice said.
According to the department, a 44-year-old Russian living in Sarasota, Florida, has been illegally purchasing and exporting electronic components from the United States since at least February 2022 that can also be used in the production of drones.
The Ministry of Justice believes that a network of companies associated with Postovoy in Hong Kong (WowCube HK Limited, JST Group Hong Kong, Jove HK Limited) made supplies without the necessary licenses.
“He allegedly lied about the final destination of the equipment he shipped and used intermediate destinations to conceal illegal activities.” – said the prosecutor Matthew Graves.
The investigation is being conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, coordinated by the interdepartmental Disruptive Technology Strike Force, which includes employees from the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
In early August, a Russian was extradited to the United States. Arturo Petrovwho was arrested in Cyprus at Washington’s request. Authorities believe the 33-year-old supplied US-made microelectronics to Russia, circumventing sanctions. The Russian Consulate General in New York said it would seek to contact the detainee.
