Russian gas continues to flow to Austria, despite statements in the European country that Gazprom has warned that supplies will cease from November 16.
According to the Slovak operator EuStream, Russian gas will continue to arrive in Austria on November 16. Thus, at 10:20 local time, four hours and twenty minutes after the start of the new gas day, at the Velke Kapušany point 6.8 million cubic meters were received from Ukraine and 3.8 million meters were transferred cubic to the Austrian Baumgarten. At the same time, supplies were also sent to Slovakia from Hungary, but they amounted to 1.4 million cubic meters.
The Slovak operator indicates that on November 16 supplies from Ukraine will remain at the usual level and are planned at 41 million cubic meters. At the same time, they plan to supply Austria with 23.1 million cubic meters of gas per day. The “GTS Operator of Ukraine” confirms that the designation of transit through Ukraine has not changed.
Days earlier, OMV announced that it had won an arbitration against Gazprom under a German contract and compensation of 230 million euros. The company stated that it will select them from the payments that Gazprom is obliged to make for current supplies under the Austrian contract and does not rule out suspending supplies.
Yesterday, OMV published an urgent message that they had received a warning from Gazprom Export, according to which the Austrian company would stop receiving Russian gas from 6:00 a.m. on November 16. Then a new gasoline day begins. Later, the Austrian Chancellor announced such plans. Karl Nehammerwho assured that the country has sufficient fuel reserves.
Experts noted that Gazprom is obliged to suspend supplies in case of non-payment within the framework of the presidential decree on the procedure for reaching agreements with hostile countries.
SICI Analyst Tom Marzek-Manser In X he writes that it is possible that Russian gas will continue to be sold on the spot market in central Austria.
“Gazprom cannot sell on its own, but its partners can: the Slovak SPP, the Hungarian MVM or even the Azerbaijani Socar.” – writes the analyst. He points out that the buyer in the center does not know who the gas he is receiving is from.
In April, Gazprom filed a lawsuit against OMV Gas Marketing & Trading with the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, prohibiting the Austrian company from participating in international arbitration proceedings. Gazprom Export did not acknowledge the violation of contracts or the legality of the declared damage claims. Obviously, we are talking about the supply of gas to Germany via Nord Stream. In the summer, due to the restrictions imposed by the sanctions on the repair of the turbines of the compressor stations, the supply through the gas pipeline decreased, stopped at the end of August, and on September 26, saboteurs blew up the gas pipeline in the Sea Baltic.
