More than 170 passengers, including Russian tourists, are stranded in Antarctica on the luxury cruise ship SH Diana after one of its engines broke down.
According to the British newspaper The Times, the tourists were supposed to arrive in Antarctica, but the Swan Hellenic cruise company had to cancel the trip after the ship suffered engine problems.
Currently, the ship is slowly heading towards the city of Ushuaia, in southern Argentina, at a speed of 6 knots (11 km/h). Its arrival is scheduled for Saturday, November 30. A team of engineers is then scheduled to come on board to fix the problem before its next voyage on December 3.
It is reported that the price of the trip varies from 972 thousand rubles to 1,389 million rubles. However, Swan Hellenic refuses to refund the full cost of the trip. Passengers from Russia and China are on hunger strike and demand full compensation.
The management of the SH DIANA company announced its readiness to refund only 30% of the required amount. The tourists are not satisfied with this situation and plan to sue for full compensation.
Previously EADaily reported that nearly 600 Russian citizens were trapped on the crippled cruise ship Spectrum of The Seas off the coast of Japan.
