Sabunchu and Surakhani oil workers celebrated their professional holidays

About 300 employees of Balakhani Operating Company LTD, Surakhani Oyl SA, AzGerneft LLC and Gulf Drilling, operating in the Sabunchu and Surakhani regions, took part in the event “Absheron – Oil Lamp of the Ages”. At the Baku Youth House, they proudly recalled the history of oil and talked about the sustainable future of the oil industry. Public figures, representatives of higher education institutions teaching technical specialties and members of the media also joined the oilmen’s party.

The event started with the laying of flowers in front of the monument to the great leader Heydar Aliyev in front of the Baku Youth Center. The Day of Oilmen, which coincides with the signing of his work, the “Contract of the Century”, pays tribute to the great work of oilmen, who played an invaluable role in the history of Azerbaijan, in the development of its economy and in strengthening its independence.

Senior honorary oil workers, Doctor of Technical Sciences Shair Bakirov, Honored Engineer Telman Jafarov, who spoke before their colleagues, reviewed the history of the preparation and signing of the “Treaty of the Century”, which laid the foundation for Azerbaijan’s economic sovereignty. They said that the creation of the starting point of our national oil doctrine went through great difficulties. It took months of hard work to establish the trust of foreign partners in Azerbaijan, which is in a fragile security situation, and to represent the long-term national interests of the Azerbaijani people in the document. The diplomatic talent of the head of the country personally played a decisive role in this case. Heydar Aliyev’s national oil strategy, which began with the “Contract of the Century”, has expanded the capabilities of production enterprises operating in Azerbaijan today to a level that we never imagined at that time.

It was also noted at the event that the names of several sons who devoted themselves to the profession of Azerbaijani oilmen are also written in our modern heroic annals. Only among the employees of the enterprises represented at the hall there are more than 300 participants in the Patriotic War. Rashid Mammadov, the foreman of the oil and gas extraction workshop of “Balakhani Operating Company LTD”, a participant in the Patriotic War, spoke on their behalf at the event and called on his colleagues to unite as an iron fist in the mines and serve Azerbaijan.

Rovshan Rzyaev, President of Balakhani Operating Company LTD., stressed that Azerbaijan’s hosting of the UN COP29 Conference this year is an important reminder for mining companies that they must adapt their operating processes to the Sustainable Development Goals, which seek to reduce the pace of climate change. They must ensure the “sustainability” of our industry, which promotes public welfare by implementing innovation in production, efficient management and environmental protection standards. In this regard, mining companies operating in the Sabunchu and Surakhani area are carrying out work on optimization, reconstruction and environmental protection and will promptly continue them within the framework of the “Year of Solidarity for Greenery” announced by the head of the country, as well as on the basis of the final decisions of COP29. Rovshan Rzayev noted that finding new solutions to prevent climate change is not the sole responsibility of company managers. Every staff member should think and share their ideas on how to make operations more efficient and perfect.

At the end of the official part of the event, a group of oil workers were given certificates and gifts for their service and contributions to the development of the companies for which they work.

People’s Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan Samir Jafarov and the winner of the Mugham contest Gunay Imamverdiyeva congratulated oilmen on their professional holiday with a concert program. The event titled “Absheron – the oil lamp of centuries” ended with the performance of the Karabakh shikeshte.
