Salamanca kicks off its festivities

The basketball player and captain of Perfumerías Avenida, Silvia Domínguez, went up to the balcony of the Salamanca City Hall this Sunday to offer the proclamation of the Fairs and Festivals in honor of the Virgen de la Vega. A starting signal to which he transferred the responsibility of taking care of the cultural wealth and heritage of a city “that is a treasure”.

Born in Montgat, a small town on the coast of Barcelona, Domínguez showed his pride in being a charro “largely in the soul” from the top of the Plaza Mayor, where he climbed in a different way than he had done on other occasions, when he celebrated the sporting successes achieved with Perfumerías Avenida.

Without forgetting his origins “because they are his roots”, he said that he was “lucky” to have found his place in Salamanca and to have made it his home, even though it is hundreds of kilometers from his hometown. Accompanied by his family, he stressed that from the top of the central agora, he was able to feel what it really means “to have an entire city dedicated to your team and to feel the responsibility of proudly representing Salamanca throughout Spain and throughout Europe”.

On this occasion, 18 years after the capital of Charra opened its doors to her, the captain of Perfumerías Avenida expressed her pride “in having been part of the history of the most successful women’s basketball club nationally and in having been part of its history in a significant way by representing this city and always trying to live up to it. Even though she separated from the club for four seasons, she acknowledged having maintained a personal connection with this city and took the opportunity to thank everyone who bet on her and gave her the opportunity to continue wearing this jersey.

“Salamanca has made me mature, helped me learn, trained me athletically and personally and helped me live unique experiences, creating bonds with this land that will be part of me forever,” the town crier continued. She welcomes, as she acknowledged, each new member of the club to show them a city, always arriving at the same conclusion: “Salamanca falls in love.”

For this reason, she values the cultural, historical and gastronomic wealth of the capital of Tormes, where none of her companions leaves without tasting the traditional hornazo of Monday of Aguas. Domínguez concluded his speech by highlighting the “enormous responsibility” of the inhabitants to “continue taking care of this wonderful city and thus transmit it to future generations.”

“Salmantinos, salmantinas, be proud of the city you have, of this cultural wealth, of its heritage and of its people because all this is a treasure,” concluded the crier, wishing happy celebrations in honor of the Virgin of La Vega, which will last until September 15.
