Salvador Illa participates in the 12-O parade after 14 years of absence from the Generalitat of Catalonia

The president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, participated in the events on the occasion of October 12national holiday and He did it after 14 years of absence of the head of the Catalan Executive. During the military parade, all political expectation was placed on the socialist.

Salvador Illa did it, as he explained in a message on X, because Catalonia must be present in the “construction of a plural and diversified Spain”. “Catalonia is back to get involved, listen and be heard,” the president expressed in the message.

The truth is that all communities participated in the parade, through their presidents, with the exception of the Basque Country, the Canary Islands and the autonomous city of Melilla. The central government was also present, almost in full, with the ministers of the PSOE and Sumar. Only the first vice-president and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, as well as Ana Redondo and Sira Rego, respectively responsible for Equality and Children and Youth, were absent from the meeting.

Likewise, the Popular Party, its president Alberto Núñez Feijóo and other leaders, as well as the European Union were also represented. During the parade, spoiled by rain, the politicians were umbrella in hand and eyes fixed on the sky.

Indeed, the rain did not stop throughout the parade, even forcing the queen to take shelter, behind, under a roof. It rained more and more, to the point that King Felipe VI, accompanied by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, considered suspending the event. But finally, the land parade is over, almost as always.

They don’t change: the parade of the Legion goat, named Killo, nor some whistles Pedro Sánchez, quieter than ever due to the distance from the public. But the rain forced, in addition to changing certain outfits, the legionnaires to slow down, who had to walk more slowly. It is one of the dullest parades which we remember, but it also leaves us with some previously unseen images, such as that of Princess Leonor watching her classmates from the naval school parade.
