The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illacommitted this Tuesday to promoting the construction of 50,000 social housing units in Catalonia until 2030with an annual investment of 1,100 million euros.
This was announced on the first day of first general policy debate in Parliament in Catalonia, which began this Tuesday afternoon with his intervention before the plenary session.
Previously, Illa had called for abandoning “sterile confrontation” and “collaborating” with the government and the European Union. Illa began her speech with a pacifist message, quoting cellist Pau Casals in his words to the United Nations. “We are Catalans and we want peace, paraphrasing Pau Casals“, said the president, who deplored the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine and assured that “Catalonia is and will be on the front line of international aid.”
Politically, he warned of the rise of the far right in Europe and the Western world, which runs the risk of “the most dangerous democratic regression” in recent times. “Catalonia will be on the side of democracy, progress and peace“, underlined Illa, who clearly set out her government’s recipe.
“The direction is clear: leave sterile confrontation behind us and know how to take advantage of opportunities for collaboration with the Spanish Government and with the new European Commission, in an ascending cycle of public resources”, he underlined.
