Sánchez advances the intention to approve the regulation that will facilitate the legalization of immigrants

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, confirmed the intention to soon submit to the Council of Ministers the reform of the immigration regulations which will eliminate bureaucratic procedures, facilitate the legalization of immigrants and create new figures of roots, as the reports this media. .

Sánchez made these statements to the Congress of Deputies on the occasion of his presentation on immigration policy. The regulation was the subject of a public hearing and a citizen participation phase during the summer. The government, businessmen and unions are currently discussing possible contributions they could include in the text and finalizing the definition of the text.

The government plans to offer more facilities in this regard to foreign victims of labor exploitation and to incorporate new settlement formulas to facilitate access to employment for foreigners already residing in Spain. The executive will give more weight to roots as a formula allowing people who are already in Spain and who are not authorized to work to do soas reported by elEconomista.es.

In context: At the end of 2023, thanks to this figure, 210,334 people had a residence permit And 77,000 of them were doing it for the first time. Social and family roots are the figures that predominate when it comes to allowing foreigners to reside. 90% of people with an initial authorization of social origin are employed and the number of people affiliated with this origin has increased by 159%.

The government plans to incorporate new “second chance” settlement formulas that will generally make requirements more flexible and replace work settlement, which has fallen out of use in recent years. It also plans to include a figure of socio-work or socio-training roots.

Pact in the EU, with the PP and family law

The president also announced that he would ask the European Union that the Pact on Migration and Asylum be launched in the summer of 2025 and not in 2026, as initially planned. He added that, to implement this European agreement, the Government will also count on “NGOs but also civil associations which work on the front line to refine and implement these mechanisms”.

Sánchez called on the PP to sign the reform of the immigration law which obliges the autonomous communities to accept immigrant minors who arrive in other regions of Spain, but who cannot be treated due to the saturation of the facilities, as is the case in the Canary Islands.

Sánchez also announced that “in the coming weeks” they would work with the parliamentary groups to approve the new family law. The objective is “promote the birth rate while being faithful to the principles of diversity, freedom and social justice”. Regardless, he said that “it is not realistic to think that Spain will return to that fertility rate of 2.1 children per woman, which guarantees the natural growth of its population.”

“No developed country in the world has achieved this. Not even, ladies and gentlemen, those who have applied the most aggressive birthrate policies. Not even those who have restricted the freedom of young people by restricting the right to abortion” , he stressed.

For their part, ministerial sources specified Europe Press that the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda has “agreed with the president (of the government, Pedro Sánchez) of this announcement to promote negotiations” with the different political groups.
