Sánchez and the Círculo de Economía meet in the middle of a debate on single financing

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, met this Monday with the board of directors of the Círculo de Economía at the entity’s headquarters on Provença Street in Barcelona. The entire board of directors of the entity attended the meeting, led by its president, James Guardiola.

Sánchez’s visit is the first to Catalonia since Illa’s inauguration as president of the Generalitat, and after two weeks the head of the Executive had to suspend his presence at the Rose Festival of the PSC due to bad weather. After the meeting, Sánchez went to the Free Trade Zone, where, with Mayor Jaume Collboni, he visited a promotion of officially protected apartments.

The Círculo and other Catalan economic institutions became one of the main supporters of the government policies of the PSOE with regard to Catalonia, both in political matters – as happened with pardons or the amnesty law – and in matters of financing.

Indeed, a few weeks before the elections which led Salvador Illa to the presidency of the GeneralityCercle and twenty other institutions of Catalan civil and economic society – the 13 Chambers of Commerce of Catalonia, Fomento, Pimec, FemCAT, the College of Economists of Catalonia, the RACC, Barcelona Global and the Círculo de Economía – signed a joint declaration unprecedented. in which they demand “ambitious measures to substantially improve the territorial financing system”.

The entities emphasize that such a reform should lead either to a federal model or to a fiscal pact. “THE signatory organizations “They consider that the current system is neither transparent, fair, nor efficient and that it represents a significant obstacle to the economic progress and social well-being of many autonomous communities, including Catalonia,” they affirm.

Both the federal system and the budgetary pact“accompanied by a solidarity mechanism”, would be beneficial for Catalonia and for all the Autonomous Communities, underline the entities, entirely in line with what the socialists and the ERC then agreed in exchange for support Republican at Illa’s inauguration. .
