Sánchez announces an investment of 20 million euros to promote public bicycles

20 million euros of investment to promote public bicycle systems. This was announced by the President of the Government this Thursday during an event at the Ministry of Transport together with Óscar Puente. “We are going to integrate the bicycle into public transport. We will invest 20 million euros to expand public bicycle systems in different cities,” he said.

The government specifies that ten million euros will be allocated to lowering prices in cities where there are already public bicycle systems and another ten million to extend this alternative to other cities. “We will subsidize the purchase of pedal-assisted bicycles that will benefit people and companies,” added Sánchez.

The President appreciated the work of his executive in promoting sustainable mobility. “In recent years alone, we have invested almost 2 billion euros, we have subsidized more than 50% of multi-trip tickets and we have launched the Youth Summer Campaign so that 18-30 year-olds can travel with discounts of up to 90%. Added to this are the free Cercanías, a historic measure that we have adopted to help citizens in the worst moments of the inflationary crisis.

Pedro Sánchez summed up that with the investment announced today “it is about having more bicycles in more cities and more people enjoying them. I would like them not to be carried away by the anti-climatic obscurantism that eliminates cycle paths even when European funds have already arrived, that they stop seeing the bicycle as a progressive symbol and see it as a fantastic mobility alternative”, he concluded.
