The President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, announced on Tuesday the reinforcement of Spanish cooperation, with a roadmap, which will be allocated to ensure that, as already improved by law, 0.7 % of GDP will be allocated in 2030, compared with reductions in the assistance of developing countries such as the United States.
Sanchez made this announcement in an event organized as part of the second day of the UN International Conference in IV on the financing of development in Seville and in which, given the existing debates about increasing defense expenses, it emphasized that the best investments in this area are that which creates well development, development and possibilities.
Unlike most of the donors countries, Spain supports and even increases its commitment, given that it has not declared abbreviations during this 2025. However, Spain is far from a coordinated goal of 0.7 % of GDP by 2030 and below the average OECD of 0.33 %.
The head of the leader insisted that although other countries question multi -talitterialism and massively remove their assistance programs, as the United States did, although without referring, Spain takes on its strengthening and does this, he explained, on three axes “three mistakes”: refuge, reinforcement and reform.
“Institutional shelter”
The first of them believed that this would make Spain “a kind of institutional shelter”, which creates the creation of the United Nations in Madrid, which has already put on the eve of the UN teams from various UN agencies, so that they could develop their work.
And he already said that the Asian development bank will open the headquarters in Spain, as he claims that there will be more international meetings in the country, such as the current summit from Seville, and that it will be a bet for a greater presence in international organizations.
From the point of view of reinforcements, he confirmed that in 2030, Spain will come true with the processing of 0.7% of GDP to help in the development, as guaranteed on Monday at the press conference, which she proposed together with the UN Secretary General, Antonio Gaterry.
Among other items, he indicated that Spain would invest in the period of 2025-2027 in 315 million euros in global health care; 500 million to combat climate change; And another 725 million to promote human rights and humanitarian actions.
In addition, in order to facilitate the forecasts of international organizations, the government will report its contributions much more and will promote everything that can be increased “significantly”, explained Sanchez, working with parliamentary partners of the executive branch.
Support for the reform of the multilateral system
The chapter related to the reform indicates that it seeks to promote a change in the multilateral system, with “more inclusive” global management, more representative and where all voices feel behind the table: world south, youth or civil society.
To do this, he proposed coordinating the platform of leaders, key subjects of civil society to transform “deep multilaterality”, which, although undoubtedly imperfect, emphasized that this is important,
As a resume, Sanchez came to the conclusion that “in the face of some replication, Spain offers a refuge, before the sections of some, Spain offers reinforcements, and before the blockade of Spain will contribute to the reform of the multilateral system.”
