In his statements in the Spanish parliament, Sanchez criticized the government of the Prime Minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that her practice “will cost one of the most gloomy chapters of the twenty -first century.”
He indicated that Spain and Ireland asked the European Union in February 2024 to assess the degree of commitment of Israel to the agreement on partnership with the trade union.
Sanchez raised the report of the actress of trade unions on Foreign and Security of Kaya Kallas, released on June 23 under the agreement: “The report concluded that there was more than sufficient evidence that Israel violated the second article on the respect of human rights.”
The Prime Minister of Spain said that the European Union has not yet taken any steps against Israel.
He continued: “Those who trample the fundamental principles of the European Union cannot use hunger in gas as weapons to eliminate the legal state (Palestine) to become a partner of the European Union.”
And he added: “We cannot be partners in the largest genocide observed by this century, obeying indifference, fluctuations or political accounts.”
The partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel was signed on November 20, 1995 in the capital of Belgium, Brussels, and entered into force on June 1, 2000 after the approval of the European Parliament, the Israeli Knesset and the Parliaments of the Member States of the Union.
The second article of the Agreement states that the relationship between the two parties “should be based on mutual respect for human rights and democratic principles, which makes this article a legal reference to any political assessment or rights regarding the commitment of the parties to an agreement”.
