Every time you find a stop on your way, Pedro Sanchez and his ministers repeat like a mantra that the legislature is long and that the government intends to exhaust it whatever happens. Until today.
The president has managed to overcome each conflict by focusing on the next problem that presents itself, and it has been this way for over a year. The problem, they think at Moncloa, is that now four have been accumulated and there are no more corners to watch out for.
Through the courts, the Madrid court ordered that the investigation against Begoña Gomez for the alleged offense of influence peddling; Furthermore, the judge responsible for the investigation into Koldo affair ordered the arrest of the conspiracy’s commissioner, Victor de Aldamaas well as 13 other people linked to the operation surrounding the former minister Jose Luis Abalos.
Through political means, Sánchez admitted to the European Union that he would not be able to send the 2025 budget “on time and in form”, which should be ready on October 15.
The internal situation is not much better, Sumar opening new fronts of disagreement within the Council of Ministers and in the PSOE federations themselves, contesting the sole leadership of the general secretary.
“Begoña affair”
For months and by different means, Pedro Sánchez raised expectations of an immediate closure of the judicial investigation against his wife. Never has a president of the government had to face the investigation of such a close person. And now, what’s more, this research has the support of a higher authority.
For now he will not be able to get rid of a case that also pushed him to a speech against part of the media and the announcement of legal measures that caused rejection in different sectors.
Even at the same time as the judicial resolution, Begoña Gómez broke her silence and launched into the attack against the Complutense University for the cancellation of one of her master’s degrees.
‘Caso Koldo’
Las acusaciones de corrupción no sobrevuelan sólo a la familia del presidente, sino también sus gobiernos. Sobre todo en la investigación que afecta a su exministro, José Luis Ábalos, tan vigente como que este lunes negro en Moncloa fue detenido Víctor de Aldama, personaje clave en la trama del llamado caso Koldo, y a otras 13 personas vinculadas con la operación.
Aldama es el presunto conseguidor, el lazo entre la red política y la económica cuya trama consiguió defraudar cerca de 182 millones de euros a Hacienda en apenas dos años. Según fuentes próximas a la investigación, que llevan a cabo la Unidad Central Operativa de la Guardia Civil (UCO) y la Fiscalía Anticorrupción, Aldama habría realizado el papel de mediador.
El empresario mantenía una relación muy cercana con Koldo García Izaguirre, exasesor de José Luis Ábalos en su época como ministro de Transportes y secretario de Organización del PSOE. El diputado todavía no ha sido imputado en ninguna pieza, pero el cerco alrededor de su gestión sigue estrechándose.
Especialmente, la Audiencia Nacional ha abierto una investigación por fraude a Have Got Time SL, la compañía que alquiló un chalé al exministro en junio de 2021, en una urbanización situada en la localidad gaditana de La Línea de la Concepción. Apenas un mes después, en julio de ese año, Ábalos fue cesado de su cargo de ministro de Transportes y como secretario de Organización del PSOE.
Debilidad parlamentaria
En lo político, el Gobierno comunicó este lunes a Bruselas que le será imposible aprobar los Presupuestos según el calendario establecido, justificándolo debido a su debilidad parlamentaria y las dificultades para cerrar acuerdos con todos los partidos que formaron parte del bloque de investidura. Especialmente con Junts, por las dificultades para acordar con Carles Puigdemont, y con Podemos.
Si consigue aprobar los Presupuestos, el presidente del Gobierno tendría oxígeno político suficiente para llegar a finales de 2026 sólo con una prórroga en 2025… y no depender más de los independentistas catalanes. Si finalmente no los hay, será mucho más difícil que pueda afrontar una legislatura completa con las cuentas aprobadas en la anterior, en este caso, en 2023.
Sánchez sabe todo esto. Por eso decidió cambiar la senda de déficit y retrasar todo el calendario para aplazar la negociación sobre los Presupuestos hasta que hayan pasado los congresos de Junts y de ERC. Con lo que no contaba era con que los problemas le iban a surgir en el mismo Consejo de Ministros, con la rebelión de Sumar.
El partido con el que Sánchez comparte Gobierno de coalición se esfuerza estos días por diferenciarse en lo posible del socio mayoritario. Ocurrió durante la votación de la reforma del Consejo General del Poder Judicial, en la toma de posesión de la nueva presidenta de México y, más recientemente, en las políticas sociales.
Sumar, la formación de Yolanda Díaz, se volcó este lunes en mostrar su rechazo frontal a las bajas parciales propuestas la pasada semana por el PSOE y, de paso, atacar fervientemente las políticas de vivienda de los socialistas, que considera “poco ambiciosas”.
