Sánchez does not repair the Júcar-Vinalopó raft while Mazón invests another 40 million in the transfer

The president of the Generalitat Valenciana popular Carlos Mazon announced this Wednesday the start of procedures forDoubling the main pipeline of the Júcar-Vinalopó transfer. The drafting of the project will be commissioned in the coming weeks. The work will have a approximate budget of 40 million of euros.

Faced with this initiative, which aims to shorten the deadlines, Carlos Mazón criticized the fact that the Spanish government, chaired by the socialist Pedro Sanchez “continues to forget and hinder” the development of the province of Alicante with the work stoppage modernization and rehabilitation of the main reservoir of the aforementioned transfer: that of San Diego, in Villena, considered the second largest reservoir in Europe, with a capacity of 20.7 cubic hectometres.

Since its completion in 2012, the aforementioned basin has been leaking. But neither then nor now have they been repaired, so the tank remains unusable. and without any sign of a solution, since in a recent parliamentary response from the Executive of Pedro Sánchez to the PP deputy in Congress Joaquín Melgarejo, the Government considered that this repair was not urgent.

Mazón regretted that The ministry “did nothing” with this work while, as he argued, for the Executive of Pedro Sánchez: “It should be a priority to fulfill your commitments” regarding the Júcar-Vinalopó transfer.

On the other hand, Mazón highlighted the implementation by the Generalitat Valenciana of a series of measures infrastructure and initiatives such as the expansion of aid to promote the rational use of water and the improvement of energy efficiency in irrigation, with 9 million euros. This amount is in addition to the 12.6 million for the modernization of irrigation in the Acequia Real del Júcar or the increase in the provision of agricultural insurance to reach 32 million euros.

THE Valencian CommunityAccording to Mazón, “this demands what is rightfully ours in terms of water”, because in this territory this is achieved both “in the reuse and modernization of irrigation and in infrastructure”.

Mazón made these statements after attending the cutting of the first bunch of bagged table grapes Vinalopó and the presentation of the campaign for the 2024-2025 season of this protected designation of origin.
