Sánchez expressed ‘enormous concern’ over attacks in Lebanon in meeting with Guterres

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, met in New York with the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, to whom he expressed his “deep concern” about the situation. Israeli bombings in Lebanonwhich have left nearly 500 dead and threaten to spread the conflict throughout the Middle East region.

“It is a pleasure to meet again with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterreswith whom I discussed the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. We share our enormous concern about the situation in Lebanon and we call for containment and de-escalation,” Sánchez expressed on his account on the social network X.

During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General AssemblyThe president also demonstrated “determination and consistency” in defending an international system based on multilateralism, the United Nations Charter, international law and international humanitarian law.

Guterres’ office said the two leaders also discussed the situation in Venezuela and the Future Summit, during which Spain supported the Sustainable Development Goals, including the celebration of the next Conference on Financing for Development to be held in Seville in 2025.
